Rationale
Attracting an audience is one of the most important things to remember when you are trying to deliver your message or raise awareness. This is why you have to consider which genre and what tone to use when you are trying to get your point across. There are specific methods, wording or themes that you have consider when you are trying to appeal to an audience. For my composition I used two different genres for two different audiences, I used an advertisement for the older and mature audience and a social media post for the younger audience.
For the advertisement I used facts and statistics that show some of the benefits that immigration has on America. This shows how immigration is a good thing for our country as it improves the economy creates jobs and can increase wages.The purpose of this advertisement was to show the true value of immigration and why it should be supported more instead of seen as negative aspect. I appealed to logos by showing how immigrants can improve our country. This specific audience is much more experienced and wiser so appealing to logic would be an effective way in targeting this audience. This genre was filled with facts and statistics including a graph, which makes it more serious and more a reliable genre as its factual, it’s also effective as it is persuasive and gets the message across.
Using a social media post targets more of the younger audiences such as younger voters and college students, as social media is a daily exercise for the majority of this demographic. This is why it’s an effective genre towards appealing to this audience and showing them how immigration is being done the wrong way in this country. Its seen as a negative thing and immigrants are used as a scapegoat for the problems in this country. I appealed to the pathos of the audience by using some of the cruel immigration policies as an example. I included a political cartoon and some statistics on how kids are being separated from their families at the border. This is an effective method as this specific audiences tend to be more liberal and progressive and support resolving social issues. Social media is also effective in spreading a message as the more people share it the more awareness that is brought to the matter and again social media is a big part of most people’s lives.
